Daily practice
I want to share my daily spiritual practice for anyone that might also like to experience these wonderful things. It’s an accumulation of gathered interests over the years…
Upon awakening I go right to my meditation mat and sit for at least 30 minutes. I’ve never timed it but somehow it always ends up to be about 30-45 minutes. I guess this is the perfect length of time for me… My meditation starts with a grounding exercise called “ground, surround, and protect.” I learned this from spiritual healer Pat Longo and am very consistent with it as I have been feeling intense anxiety. The anxiety is new for me and I believe caused by all of the crazy energy that has come to be our normal environment. It has been helping tremendously.
After the grounding I pray and offer gratitude to the divine. Gratitude is such an important part of this path and I like the way I feel after expressing so much gratitude.
Often times while sitting in meditation I will hold a rose quartz crystal for the additional healing qualities that it brings. And other times I will place my hands on my body and give myself reiki while sitting.
After meditation, I take my dog for a nice long walk. This helps us both to bring some life back into our sleepy bodies. We walk in nature on a wooded path as often as possible as nature has such a healing effect for me. I’ll share too that when my dog gets up first thing in the morning he shakes his whole body, almost like he’s activating his kundalini energy, so I have started to do that too. It looks a little ridiculous but no one’s watching so what the hey!
Over the years I have come to know so many wonderful singers of Sanskrit mantra chants that fill my soul. I have a playlist that I listen and sing to while in the shower. The singing, I believe helps to activate my Vishuddhi chakra and connect me deeper to the divine.
Next comes a quick tarot card pull. I use a tarot deck called the Muse Tarot and they are such a great reinforcement of the power of the divine feminine. I usually ask spirit for a message about the energy of the new day as I shuffle the cards. The first one that pops out is the one I take for my message, as they are so on target for me and I keep the lesson in mind throughout the day.
Then I go to my oracle deck. It’s the Ask Your Guides oracle deck and sometimes has either a totally new message for me or will coincide with the tarot card I’ve pulled. Just this morning I pulled the Freedom card. It speaks about liberation, escape, expansion, and flight… “you are not trapped. A more fulfilling life awaits you when you let go of limiting dependencies and trust your Spirit – and not your fears — to lead. Find your courage. Pay attention to your runners as they point the way, then fly.”
I feel that this is a sacred way to start the day. And I trust in the guidance of the cards as my guru just spoke to me about choosing to fly! Try it on yourself.
